Why the Car Won't Start

If your vehicle won't start, odds are it is related to the function of your battery. Maybe you left the lights on, or the door was slightly ajar and your dome light stayed on. Whatever caused the battery to lose a charge is not as important as making sure it starts the next time. Most of the time, it can be associated with battery issues, or ignition and starting system problems like these:

• Healthy battery but drained: This is the easiest fix, because it means something drained the power from your battery. It's the best-case scenario because it means that a jump start will get you on your way again.
• Old battery: This problem occurs if the battery is old and it can no longer maintain a charge. If this is the problem, a new battery and proper installation is all you need to get back on the road again. Usually, if this is the issue, it means you can jump start your battery, and it will run until you turn it off again, and then you need another jump start. • Starting/Ignition System needs service: This means it is not your battery; it could be the starter, the starter relay, the alternator, spark plugs, wiring, fuses, or some other problems unrelated to your battery's health. You can also inspect your battery terminals and cables to see if they need cleaning because corrosion on one of those parts could be impairing the flow of electricity to the components of your vehicle that need electricity to function.

If you get the components all cleaned up and a single jump start still doesn't solve the problem, have your battery tested by the Service Center professionals at Hondru CDJR of E-Town. They can use a voltmeter to determine battery health, and if it's not your battery they can run a diagnostic test to determine the cause of the problem.
